PPTP Advantages and Disadvantages

The primary advantage of PPTP over L2TP is that it is easier to set up and use than L2TP. Data is encrypted without IPsec, which means that installing computer certificates or a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) is not needed. Computers using Microsoft operating systems support PPTP by default. Without IPsec, PPTP's main disadvantage is poorer security compared to L2TP. It does not provide data integrity or data-origin verification, which means it cannot confirm data was not altered in transit or verify it was sent by an authorized source. This also means PPTP can have performance issues over unstable networks.
